An overlooked masterpiece or a wasteful display of ego and excess?
In this episode we look at Michael Jackson’s final studio album Invincible, which divided fans and critics at its time of release and remains the most expensive album to date. Since Jackson’s death it has only been marginally reappraised, so it seemed like an obvious choice for The Second Spin to revisit. We discuss the album’s unique production history, the songwriting process, its place in Jackson’s discography, and the commercial and personal pressures which impacted directly on the birth of the recording, while reviewing the songs on the first half of the album.
Album originally released: October 30th, 2001.
