Episode 15: Diabolus in Musica by Slayer

Trendy or tritely?

To celebrate the release of the first new Slayer album in 6 years, we decided to revisit their most controversial album, Diabolus In Musica, which was released in mid-1998, right before the nu-metal explosion.  Accused of bandwagon jumping by loyal fans, Diabolus In Musica was viewed as the sound of an older band desperately trying to conform with current trends.   In this episode, we will discuss the fairness of this judgement, the critical and commercial reception of Diabolus In Musica while evaluating the songs and lyrics.

Originally released: June 9, 1998.

The Second Spin

  1. Hi Everyone,

For those wondering what happened to the Final Thoughts – there was a glitch in our upload. A new version has replaced that glitchy file. That goes for the stream above, the downloads and the other streaming services like iTunes. – Luke.

    • No prob!

Out of curiosity, which of these would you be more likely to cover?

      Metallica: The Black Album
      Metallica: St. Anger

      • Hello again Josh.

Please excuse the lateness of this reply. We won’t be reviewing The Black Album because it’s one of the biggest albums of all time and it’s very well respected, even if a lot of metal fans dislike it due to its commercial sound. We will be reviewing a Metallica album in the near future though, so stay tuned!!

Thanks for supporting The Second Spin.
